The implementation of the LIFE WATEROIL Project involves the use of innovative technology to purify wastewater from the Lukoil refinery through the use of specially developed bioactivators. Therefore, after improved wastewater purification, some of the water can be reused. This will reduce the fresh water consumption of the Mandra Dam by about 420 thousandm3 per year. Implementation of the project will also improve the refinery’s energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions are expected to decrease by 1,000 tons per year and pollutant emissions in wastewater by about 75 tons per year. Based on the results achieved during project implementation, it is planned to implement a best practice for wastewater treatment, as well as a new methodology for identifying sources of unpleasant odors based on the current olfactometric standard.
